MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – New head women's basketball coach Allison Bustamante has unveiled the schedule for the Buccaneers this season.
The Bucs have 27 games on the docket with 13 coming in the friendly confines of the Health & Sports Center, where the Buccaneers have a 59.8 winning percentage.
FULL SCHEDULE
The season begins with the Sunshine State Conference/Gulf South Conference Crossover Challenge in Boca Raton, Fla., from Nov.14-15. It starts with a meeting against Trevecca Nazarene, it's the second meeting all-time between the schools. The first was a Barry 72-50 win last season; the Trojans went 8-20 last season. The second match is against Christian Brothers; it's the fourth meeting of the schools. Barry holds a 2-1 record, winning the last two after CBU won the first meeting.
The first home game pits the Bucs against the Janes of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez on Nov. 17. The Bucs have won all three meetings with the Janes, but have not played since 2013, when Barry won 85-48. All three games have been in the Health & Sports Center.
The home continues against Florida National on Nov. 18. Barry is undefeated against the Conquistadors, winning the last meeting 100-70. FNU went 9-13 last season making their conference tournament.
SSC play begins on Nov. 22 as Barry hosts Eckerd. Despite trailing the Tritons 8-2 in the last ten meetings, the schools split the regular season meetings last year, and Barry still holds a 40-34 overall record. The Tritons eliminated Barry in the conference tournament at the end of last season.
The Buccaneers travel to St. Peterburg, Fla., for the Eckerd Thanksgiving Classic from Nov. 28-29. The first game is against South Carolina-Beaufort, who finished last year 6-20; it's the second meeting all-time between the schools. Barry won the meeting last season 71-56. The second game comes against Cedarville. It's the first meeting between the schools; the Yellow Jackets went 14-15 last season, making the Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament.
Conference play resumes against cross-town rivals Nova Southeastern on Dec. 3. The Sharks have won eight of the last ten, with the schools splitting the season series last season. NSU has a 35-20 overall record against the Bucs, and the Sharks went 27-7 last season, including a 16-4 conference record.
The Buccaneers are back home for the first meeting of the season with Palm Beach Atlantic, on Dec. 6. Despite the Sailfish winning three straight, Barry holds a 33-11 overall record. PBA went 14-15 last season, including 8-12 in conference.
Barry is on the road to Daytona Beach, Fla., for a matchup with the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Dec. 13. The two schools split the season series last season, but the Eagles still hold an 11-6 record against the Bucs. Embry-Riddle went 27-5, 17-3 in conference, last season ending with the best record in the league.
Coming back from the break, the Bucs take on the Gyrenes of Ave Maria on Tuesday, Dec. 30. Barry won the only previous meeting with the Gyrenes 77-45 in 2009. Last year, Ave Maria finished 12-17, 7-9 and in fifth place in The Sun Conference.
On Jan. 3, the Buccaneers host Rollins for the first game of the season series with the Tars. Despite a trailing 51-29 in the overall record, Barry has won six of the last ten including winning both meetings last season. The Tars went 9-18, 4-16 in conference last season.
The Buccaneers head to Lakeland, Fla., to face off with Florida Southern on Jan. 7. Despite the Moccasins winning six of the last ten and holding a 59-22 record, Barry won both meetings last season. Florida Southern went 11-16 last season and 6-14 in the SSC.
On Jan. 10, the Buccaneers make the trip to Tampa as they face off with the Spartans. Barry hasn't had the best luck against Tampa, having lost 14 straight to Tampa dating back to 2018. Tampa holds a 61-23 overall record over the Buccaneers.
Barry hosts arch-rival Lynn on Jan.14 for the first meeting of the season with the Fighting Knights. The Buccaneers hold a 38-27 overall record against the Knights; Lynn went 13-15, 7-13 in conference, last season.
The Buccaneers begin a three-game road stretch in St. Leo, Fla., on Jan. 17 to go against the Lions. Though Saint Leo has won six of the last ten, Barry still holds a 51-26 overall record. The Lions went 11-17, 6-14 in the SSC, last season.
The road stretch is rounded out with games against Florida Tech (Jan. 21) and Palm Beach Atlantic (Jan. 28). Despite Barry having a 38-46 record against the Panthers, they have won eight straight. PBA won both meetings last season; they made the conference tournament, losing in the first round.
Barry is back home for rematches against Embry-Riddle (Jan. 31) and Nova Southeastern (Feb. 4). Embry-Riddle won the conference championship last season, and made the NCAA tournament, advancing to the second round before losing. Nova Southeastern were SSC runners-up last season, and advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament.
The Bucs are back on the road as they travel to Boca Raton, Fla., to play arch-rivals the Lynn Knights. Barry won both meetings last season against the Knights. Lynn made the conference tournament last season, falling in the first round.
On Feb. 11 the Buccaneers host a rematch with the Tampa Spartans. The Spartans finished second in the conference last season at 26-7, 17-3 in conference, record. Tampa made the second round of the conference tournament, and they made the NCAA tournament.
A rematch with the Saint Leo Lions takes place at the Health & Sports Center on Feb. 14. Barry won the last meeting with the Lions 82-61. The Lions made the conference tournament, losing in the first round.
The Buccaneers travel to Winter Park, Fla., as they face off with the Rollins Tars on Feb. 18. The Tars finished ninth in the conference last season, just missing out on the conference tournament. Barry won the last meeting in Winter Park 75-71.
The final two home games of the season are rematches with Florida Tech (Feb. 21) and Florida Southern (Feb. 25). Florida Tech went 7-19, 4-16 in the SSC, last season with Barry winning the last meeting 88-58. Florida Southern just missed out on the conference tournament last season. The Buccaneers won the last meeting 102-75 against the Moccasins.
The season wraps up with a rematch against the Eckerd Tritons on the road on Feb. 28. The Tritons went 19-9, 13-7 in conference last season. The Buccaneers will look to get revenge for the conference tournament loss last season to Eckerd.
The SSC tournament runs from Mar. 3-8, with NCAA bids being announced afterwards.
