Softball Falls in Close Matchup Against NSU in South 1 Regional Opening Round

TAMPA, Fla. – Barry Softball had their first postseason game in over a decade at the Naimoli Softball Field on Thursday afternoon. The matchup featured Sunshine State Conference foe, Nova Southeastern, who is the fourth seed in the regional. The Sharks took the close contest via a walk-off in their final at bats of the seventh.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • B1 | NSU quickly jumped on the board after a three-up, three-down top of the first for Barry. The Sharks quickly had bases loaded with one out for the early threat. A fielder's choice ground ball scored the first run of the game. Haelee Angelico was able to escape the inning with a strikeout for the third out. I NSU 1, Barry 0
  • T3 | After two quick outs to open the inning, Brooklyn Rushton stepped up to the plate and delivered he only extra-base hit of the entire game sending a shot to the right center gap for a triple. Harper Bunn then came through with the RBI-single to left field to bring Rushton home and tie the game up. | Barry 1, NSU 1
  • B7 | After keeping the Sharks at bay for five innings, their offense struck in the bottom of the seventh to walk it off. Back to back infield singles then followed up by a sacrifice bunt put two runners in scoring position. The Sharks shortstop, Brenna Lokeinsky then had the big hit with a single to right field. | NSU 2, Barry 1
NOTEWORTHY:
  • Brooklyn Rushton had two of the Bucs five hits in the game. 
  • Alexis Martin came in and threw 4.2 scoreless innings of relief, giving up three hits and punching out three.
  • Harper Bunn, Becka Mellor, and Mac Stone-Folmar were the other Buccaneers to get a hit. 
  • Bunn has started a three-game hit streak. 
  • The season series is now tied 2-2 against NSU.

ON THE HORIZON
The Bucs will player in the knockout game tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. against no. 8 Spring Hill College at Naimoli Field. If they win that game, they will play immediately after against the loser of Tampa and NSU, who play at 12:00 p.m. For more information on the tournament please click here.
