MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Heather Macy resigned as the head women's basketball coach at Barry University, director of athletics Dr. Scott Smith announced today.
"We appreciate everything that Coach Macy has done for us over the last two years," Smith said. "We wish her well in her future endeavors."
Macy spent two seasons in The Shores, leading the Buccaneers to a 28-29 record, 16-24 in the Sunshine State Conference. She leaves to take the head coaching position at conference rival Nova Southeastern.
Macy orchestrated a 180 turn-around for the Bucs in year two, leading the team to a 19-9 record in the regular season, before falling in the quarterfinals of the SSC Tournament. Audrey Jennings was named First-Team All-SSC and became the fastest Buccaneer in history to reach 1,000 points in her Barry career. She finished with a 19.2 points per game scoring average, ranking first all-time at Barry and fifth in the conference. Kaliyah Morales was named the SSC Freshman of the Year, while Kayla Lindsey was named to the All-Defensive team.
Prior to Barry, Macy compiled a 327-178 record across 17 years as a head coach, with stops at Pfeiffer, Francis Marion, East Carolina, Spartanburg Methodist and her alma mater, Greensboro College.
In addition to her time as a head coach, Macy also spent time as an assistant coach on the Division I (High Point and UMBC) and Division II levels, which started at Catawba College immediately following her graduation from Greensboro College.
While obtaining her B.S. in Sport and Exercise Studies (Cum Laude) from Greensboro, Macy was a four-year member of the Pride women's basketball team. During her playing career, Macy placed her name in the Greensboro College record books for three-point field goals attempted and made, while also ranking ninth in all-time games played with 105. She was also inducted into the Greensboro College Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of the 1996 women's basketball team on March 31, 2012. In addition to the Greensboro College Hall of Fame, Macy was also inducted into the Starmount High School Hall of Fame.
In addition to her degree from Greensboro College, Macy also holds an M.S. in Human Performance and Recreation with a concentration in Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Barry will begin a national search for her replacement.
