Softball Drops Doubleheader to SVSU

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. Barry dropped  back to back games for the first time this season against Saginaw Valley State on Friday evening from Buccaneer Field.

INSIDE THE MATCHUPS:

Final: Barry 1, SVSU 2 ; (G2-8) Barry 2, SVSU 3
Records: Barry (19-7), SVSU (11-3)
All-Time Series: Series tied 3-3

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game One):
  • T2 | The Cardinals got on the board first with a lead off single. The next batter traded places with a fielder's choice ground ball. A stolen base setup a runner in scoring position for that scored on a double to right center. It has been eight games since Barry has trailed in a contest. | Barry 0, SVSU 1
  • B5 | Caroline Figueroa broke up the no-hitter in the bottom of the fifth with a single down the left field line. A series of bunts put pressure on the Cardinal defense who made three errors and gave the Bucs a run to tie it up. | Barry 1, SVSU 1
  • T7 | A pinch hit solo shot to start the inning would be the difference maker. | Barry 1, SVSU 2
NOTEWORTHY (Game One):
  • Barry hit .091 as a team, the lowest in a game this season.
  • It ended a 12 game winning streak for Barry.
  • The Cardinals stranded five base runners to the Bucs two.
  • Sarah Langlie extends her hit streak to 10 and on base streak to 18.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game Two):
  • B3 | The Bucs took the lead for the first time today. A two-out rally started with a Harper Bunn single, she advanced on a throwing error to put herself in scoring position. Sarah Langlie delivered a single up the middle to bring home Bunn. | Barry 1, SVSU 0
  • T6 | The long ball proved itself again for the Cardinals as it tied things up in the sixth. | Barry 1, SVSU 1
  • T8 | A fielding error came around to score to take the lead. A two-out single gave SVSU insurance heeading into the bottom half. | Barry 1, SVSU 3
  • B8 | Barry did not go down without a fight as Bunn reached to start the inning off an error. Langlie then doubled down the right field line to get things going with runners in scoring position. Figueroa hit a ground ball RBI that brought in Bunn to cut the deficit to one. An unsucessful squeeze play killed the Buccaneer threat. | Barry 2, SVSU 3
