Softball Takes Advantage of Lynn Mistakes in Series Opener

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Barry hit the road to begin their sixth Sunshine State Conference series of the year a Spanish River Athletic Park. The Buccaneers defeated Lynn in the softball series opener and improve to winning their fifth of the six first games in SSC series.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • B1 | In a change of events for the Bucs, they fell behind in the first inning as Lynn struck first putting up two to start the game. Back-to-back one-out singles got things going for the Fighting Knights. A two-single after a Buc error scored the runs. | Lynn 2, Barry 0
  • T2 | The lead was quickly erased in the next inning as Paige White got the one-out single to get the first baserunner aboard. An error and passed ball moved runner into scoring position. A wild pitch and another two errors brought in the three runs. | Barry 3, Lynn 2
  • T3 | Barry added an insurance run, reaching on a drop on third strike wild pitch and a walk. Becka Mellor haad the clutch two-out single through the right side. | Barry 4, Lynn 2
  • B7 | Lynn attempted a late inning two-out rally but came up short putting up just one run. | Barry 4, Lynn 3
NOTEWORTHY:
  • Samantha Rosenberger nearly went the distance throwing six innings, improving to 7-4. She hit a season-high and tied a career-high with five strikeouts. It is just the second time in hre career achieve the feat. 
  • Alexis Martin came in the seventh and picked up her second save of the season.
  • The pitching staff did not give up a free pass in the contest, throwing a 75.8 strike percentage and just 24 balls total in the contest.
  • Lynn out-hit Barry 11-3 in the game but had four errors that would prove costly.
  • Paige White, Becka Mellor, and Mia Lucey picked up the three hits.
  • Lucey picked up her first collegiate hit in just her second at bat of her career.

Barry will play a double header tomorrow to close out the series, first pitch is set at 3:00 p.m.
