Women’s Tennis Shuts The Door Against Lynn

Barry’s wins their second straight match against their rival

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--  The third-ranked Barry Buccaneers continued their regular season with a 6-1 victory against the no. 37-ranked Sunshine State Conference rival Lynn Knights on Wednesday afternoon at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Buccaneers dominated in doubles play, sweeping all three matches. They opened with a 6-1 win on Court #2 against Salma Djoubri and Zofia Podbiol, followed by another 6-1 victory over the #28-ranked duo of Carla Galmiche and Kristen Younes. The final doubles match was more of the same, as the Bucs secured a 6-2 win on Court #3.
  • Ailen Crespo delivered a commanding performance on Court #6, shutting out Mia Garber in a 6-3, 6-0 win.
  • On Court #4, Dinara Alloiarova faced a tough battle against #60 Galmiche but came through with a 6-2, 7-6(2) victory after rallying to force a tiebreak after trailing 4-2.
  • On court #5, #31 Angela Leweurs controlled her match, sweeping Zofia Podbiol 6-3, 6-3 to clinch the win for the Buccaneers—her ninth victory of the season.
  • On Court #1, eighth-ranked Viktoriia Dema fell to Salma Djoubri, with both sets ending 6-3 in favor of the Knight.
  • Both of the last two matches split sets, and finished with a super-tiebreaker as the match had already been decided.
  • At the third flight, #25 Andrea Di Palma staged a thrilling comeback against Kristen Younes. After dropping the first set 4-6, she battled back 6-4 in the second, fueled by cheers from her teammates. In the decisive tiebreak, she sealed the win 10-7 in the super.
  • In the final match to finish, #3 Alina Michalitsch overcame a slow start on Court #2 against Mariya Vyshkina, dropping the first set 4-6. Frustration turned to determination as she responded with a 6-3 win in the second. With the match on the line, the crowd held its breath as Alina delivered in the clutch, taking the final set 10-7 to secure victory in the super tiebreaker match.

The Bucs stay home to take on Eckerd on March 29, the match begins at 2pm at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.
