Baseball Breaks Out The Brooms To Sweep Lions

Bucs rally for a game one win yhen take game two

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers broke out the brooms to sweep the Saint Leo Lions in a Sunshine State Conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday from Feinbloom Field. Barry rallied from 8-0 down in game one to win 9-8 then took the finale 8-3.

SUMMARY:

  • T1 - Saint Leo jumped out in front early, sending eight men to the plate and scoring four runs. Dylan Mass beat out an infield single to drive in a run and Caleb Adams, who was hit by a pitch, scored on a balk by Barry starter Jack Ensell. Dylan McDonald roped a two-run single. | Saint Leo 4, Barry 0
  • T2 - Thomas DeBrower, who was hit by a pitch, scored on a ground out and Ryan Crivello scored on a bases loaded walk to Eli Vickers. | Saint Leo 6, Barry 0
  • T4 - Adams hit a two-run homer to put the Lions up by eight. | Saint Leo 8, Barry 0
  • B4 - The Bucs started to chip into the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Barry scored on a infield single to Nick Toms and a sacrifice fly by Albert Espinosa. | Saint Leo 8, Barry 2
  • B5 - Savi Delgado roped a double down the left field line, scoring Kendry Nortiega and Harry Vargas Seguera. Felix Diaz scored on a fly out by Toms. | Saint Leo 8, Barry 5
  • B8 - Barry scored four in the bottom fo the eighth, thanks to two Lion errors. Barry loaded the bases on a hit batter, a single by Joe Wike and an error by Vickers at second base. Vargas Seguera walked to plate one run. Noriega bounced a ground ball to third where Roberto Odor forced Wike at the plate, but Lions catcher Logan Dichler threw the ball away at first, allowing Vargas Seguera and Jimmy Bruno to score to tie the game. Diaz laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to bring in Noriega with the game-winner. | Barry 9, Saint Leo 8

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Aiden Denton (3-1) went 6.1 innings in relief of Ensell, to earn the win. He allowed two runs on four hits and two walks and struck out two.
  • Brady King allowed two hits in the ninth, but kept the Lions off the board to record his second save of the series.
  • Kaelan Racculia (2-3) took the loss for the Lions, allowing four unearned runs in three innings.
  • Diaz and Murchael Turner each had two hits, while Delgado and Toms each drove in a pair.

  • B1 - Barry got on the board first in the finale. Bruno beat out an infield single, then went to third on a failed pick off by Lions starter Tyler Mecchella (1-1). He scored on a fly out by Noriega. | Barry 1, Saint Leo 0

  • B6 - With the bases loaded and two outs, Delgado came through with the clutch hit again, driving in a pairof runs with a single to left center. | Barry 8, Saint Leo 2

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Mason Blocker (1-2) worked into the ninth inning to earn his second straight win. He allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk and struck out three.
  • Collin McLaughlin recorded the last two outs for the Bucs.
  • Mecchella took the loss for the Lions. He gave up six runs (five earned) on eight hits and two walks in five innings.
  • Turner led the Bucs with three hits, while Delgado, Bruno and Vargas Seguera each had two hits.
  • Delgado drove in three and Toms had two RBI.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs face cross-town rival Nova Southeastern on Tuesday at the NSU Baseball Complex.
