VALDOSTA, Ga. --  The No. 5 Barry Buccaneers men's tennis team lost to the No. 1 Valdosta State Blazers 6-1 on Saturday morning at the VSU Tennis Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Buccaneers struggled early, dropping their first and third doubles matches but battled back to claim a 6-4 victory in Doubles #2.
  • Riccardo Trione faced the top-ranked player and fell in a straight-set sweep, 6-4, 6-4.
  • Gabriele Felline kept his match competitive against the third-ranked player but came up short in the end.
  • #25 Yan Kodjoed fought hard against VSU's Edgar Destouet but fell in a tightly contested match, 6-2, 7-6, 6-3.
  • Tim Riedel came up big with a straight set win for the Bucs at #5, 7-5, 6-1 to get the Bucs their only singles victory.
  • Thomas Machado battled but dropped his match to Jan Skerbatis in straight sets, 7-6, 7-5.
  • Leo Caill started strong with an early lead against Julien Doitteau but struggled in the following two sets, ultimately falling 6-1, 6-1.

ON THE HORIZON

The Bucs are staying in Valdosta, Ga. to face off against the #1 NAIA ranked team Georgia Gwinnett on March 2, the match begins at 9 am at the VSU Tennis Courts.
