Men's Basketball Late Rally Falls Short at Saint Leo

ST. LEO, Fla. -- A second half double-digit comeback fell short at the buzzer for the Barry Men's Basketball team as they fall 86-83 to the Saint Leo Lions in Sunshine State Conference play Wednesday evening from the Bowman Center.

SUMMARY:

  • 1H - Both teams traded off baskets to start the game. A 14-3 run by the Lions gave them a 12 point lead eight minutes in. Barry then retaliated with an 6-0 run of their own to cut the lead in half. Saint Leo took an 11-point lead at the half. | Saint Leo 42, Barry 231
  • 2H - A 52-point second half gave Barry the chance at the win in the end. Gabe Hernandez and Jimel Lane led the charge, scoring double figures. The Bucs were down 20 points with 11-minutes on the clock. A 13-2 run helped cut the deficit to seven. Hernandez the scored nine straight to make it a two-point game. A steal by Lane and then a dunk by Adren Roberts made it 83-all with 23 seconds remaining. It was immediately followed by a three from the Lions that closed out the game. | Saint Leo 86, Barry 83

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Hernandez led the Bucs with 24 points, 19 in the second half, and added six rebounds.
  • Lane was not too far behind with 22 points and eight rebounds.
  • Adren Roberts was the only other Buc with double digits, ending with 11 and nine rebounds.
  • Barry led in points off turnovers (13-6), second chance points (27-16), and points in the paint (42-30).

ON THE HORIZON:
Barry will remain on the road with a trip to Florida Tech on Saturday, February 8.
