Women's Basketball Drops Contest To Yellowjackets

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. --  The Barry Buccaneers dropped a 67-56 women's basketball contest to the Cedarville Yellowjackets in the second round of the Eckerd Thanksgiving Classic in the McArthur Center on Saturday.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - The Yellowjackets built a six-point lead in the first period, 13-7, after Harmony Laker drained a three-pointer with 3:50 to play. Barry rolled off six straight to tie the game 13-13 on a Jazz Cook layup with 1:46 left. But the 'Jackets scored the llast six points of the frame, including another triple from Laker.  | Cedarville 19, Barry 13
  • 2Q - Barry cut the Yellwjacket lead to 30-22 on a layup by Andreonia Doe with 5:04 left before half. But Cedarville rolled off a 12-0 run and went into the break up by 18. | Cedarville 42, Barry 24
  • 3Q - The Yellowjackets scored the first five points out of the break to take their biggest lead 47-24 with just under nine minutes left in the frame. But Barry whittled down the lead to 11 at the break, including a 12-2 run over the last 4:38. | Cedarville 55, Barry 44
  • 4Q - Barry continued their good play, trimming the lead to just five points on another layup by Doe with 3:04 left. But with the same margin heading into final two minutes, Cedarville scored the last six points again to push the final lead back to 11.  | Cedarville 67, Barry 56

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Izzy Brenzil led all scorers with a season-high 18 points and added a team-best eight rebounds and three assists.
  • Doe, who also had eight boards, added six points.
  • Emma Kay Martin led the 'Jackets with 16 points, while Cait Behling added 11.
  • Behling also topped the squad with seven boards.
  • In the first half, Cedarville shot 7-of-16 from three-point range, while the Bucs hit just 2-of-18. The second half flipped around, as Barry hit 5-of-16, while the 'Jackets were 2-of-12.

ON THE HORIZON:
The Bucs visit the Ave Maria Gyrenes on Monday, Dec. 1.
