Women's Basketball Sets Season-High In Win Over Gyrenes

Freshman Cook has 28 points, nine rebounds

AVE MARIA, Fla. --  Barry set a season-high in an 80-72 win over the Ave Maria Gyrenes in women's basketball action from Golisano Field House on Monday night.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - Barry grabbed the lead early as Izzy Brenzil hit a three-pointer to put the Bucs up 3-2 with 8:12 in the first and they never trailed again. The Bucs built a 12-point advantage with 6:11 to play on a jumper by Jazz Cook, 14-2, and carried a nine-point edge into the break. | Barry 24, AMU 15
  • 2Q - Leading 34-25, the Bucs closed the period on a 10-7 run, with Brenzil scoring five. | Barry 44, AMU 32
  • 3Q - Barry mostly maintained a double-figure advantage throughout the third period. Kendal Parker led the team with five points in the period, while Cook and Kormelia Ignerska added four each. | Barry 62, AMU 51
  • 4Q - Barry continued their good play, opening the fourth quarter with a 14-7 run. A layup by Cook gave Barry its biggest lead of the night, 76-58, with 4:35 remaining. NOTEWORTHY:

  • Cook had season-highs with 28 points and nine rebounds in leading Barry to the win.
  • Brenzil added a double-double with 13 points and a team-best 10 rebounds.
  • Parker chipped in 11 points, while Ignerska added 10.
  • Ashley Chilson led four Gyrenes in double-figures with 20 points, and added 12 rebounds.
  • Elena Barnes had 18 points, Gabby Beauperthuy added 13 and Gianvanna Rogers chipped in 11.
  • The Gyrenes, who played the game as an exhibition, got only five points from their starters, none of whom played more then nine minutes.
  • The 80 points was a season-high in offense for Barry.

ON THE HORIZON:
The Bucs visit the Nova Southeastern Sharks on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
