ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. --  The Barry Buccaneers fell 62-38 to the UCSB Sand Sharks in the opening round of the women's basketball Eckerd Thanksgiving Classic in the McArthur Center on Friday

• 1Q - The Sand Sharks started fast on Friday afternoon, with Janiyah Heyward scoring the game's first four points, after which UCSB never trailed. The Bucs cut the lead to three 11-8 on a pair of free throws by Kornelia Ignerska with 5:13 left in the period, but the Sand Sharks scored the last five points of the period.  | UCSB 16, Barry 8
• 2Q - The Bucs got off ona quick start in the second period, as Akvile Babraityte hit a layup and Jameria Robinson knocked down a three-pointer to cut the lead back to three. NOTEWORTHY:

• Jazz Cook led the Bucs in scoring and rebounding with eight points and seven rebounds.
• Lydia Gattozzi led UCSB with 13 points, while Sam Bardonardo added 12
• Although the Sand Sharks led 40-36 on the glass, Barry posted a 14-8 edge in second-chance points.
