MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — A new era of Barry Men's Basketball is upon us as the Buccaneers will hit the road to begin their 2025-26 campaign with two games in the Sunshine State Conference/Gulf South Conference Crossover, hosted in Davie, Florida at the Rick Case Arena on the campus of Nova Southeastern. This is the last season of the crossover and is the fourth straight season the opening match-ups are against Montevallo and Alabama-Huntsville.

All-Time Series: Montevallo leads 2-1; Alabama-Huntsville leads 5-4
The Buccaneers were selected to finish eighth in the SSC Preseason Coaches' Poll, where they finished last season. It is a new time for Buccaneer Basketball as first-year head coach, Justin Furr sits in the seat for the first time. Furr was previously an assistant coach on staff and returned as a leader of the helm. Along with the new head coach are 13 new players, eight of which are transfers, to join th six returners. Malik Stanlley had an early injury that put him out for the season, in the six games played, he average 18.2 points per game and hit a buzzer beater. Adren Roberts and Michael Bradley III are the only returners who played in all 29 games, Sami Elkamel was right behind in 28 games. Roberts averaged 7.4 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per game. Bradley hit the most three-pointers for the program last season with 49.
Of the newcomers, Ryan Van Eyck had a great offseason playing with the Netherlands national team at the FIBA U20 Eurobasket Divsion B Tournament where they placed fifth. The sophomore averaged 14.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game in seven games. There are six Division I transfers and two NJCAA transfers from the incoming class. Deon Perry has a lot of DI playing time starting 57 games at Loyola-Maryland and coming off the bench in 32 games at Fairfield. Novak Perovic, Breno Silva, and Marko Šarenac also bring international experience to the table.
Montevallo, under head coach Anthony Komara, were picked to finish first in the Gulf South Conference preseason poll. The Falcons had two players named to the Preseason All-Conference team, Brandon Fussell and Jaylen Curry. Newcomer Sam Duskin was named to the GSC Newcomer Watchlist after transferring in from the Air Force Academy. The Falcons, who went 15-7 last year in the league action and 20-11 overall, finishing second in the conference regular season and exited the league tournament with a semifinal loss. Montevallo received an at-large birth to the NCAA South Regional and bowed out with a loss to Florida Southern.
The Alabama-Huntsville Chargers, under head coach Mike Hedgepeth, enter their second season together and have a tough act to follow after a 32-2 first year. They were voted to finish second in GSC after going undefeated at 22-0 in conference play. The Chargers won the conference championship game and advanced to the NCAA South Regional as the two seed. They advanced all the way to the regional final before falling to the eventual national champion, Nova Southeastern. UAH had three players named on the GSC Newcomer Watchlist, Thomas Allard, Quentin Toles, and Knute Wood. The team lost all four of their leading scorers and all five starters, the only top returner is Matt Thurman who was fifth in scoring at 9.7 points per game, playing in all 34, but not starting one.
