Men's Basketball Drops Season Opener to Falcons

DAVIE, Fla. --  Hoops season is upon us as the Barry Men's Basketball team took the court for the first time at Rick Case Arena to partake in the Sunshine State/Gulf South Crossover. The Buccaneers fell to receiving votes, Montevallo 78-62 on Friday evening.

SUMMARY:

  • 1H - Both teams traded buckets with neither team taking a lead more than two. After four minutes of scoreless actino on both ends, Barry gained the first multi possession lead when Marko Šarenac drained a three to make it 11-6. The Bucs held a six-point lead before the Falcons went on an 8-2 run to tie things up at 16-all. Sarenec came through once again on a dunk to make it 22-all. Montevallo had a 10-5 run in the final three minutes to take a five point lead into the half.   • 2H - Barry was held scoreless in the first three minutes until Perry sank a three-pointer. Ryan Van Eyck scored his first Buccaneer basket to bring the game back within two possessions. After trading a few baskets, the Falcons ran away with it in the final 10 minutes holding a double-digit lead. | Montevallo 78, Barry 62

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Perry led all Buccaneers with 18 points, going perfect at the free-throw line at 6-for-6.
  • Sarenac collects the first double-double of the year with 14 points and 12 boards.
  • Malik Stanley was next best with nine off the bench.
  • Three Bucs had two blocks, in Sarenac, Van Eyck, and Novak Perovic.
  • But the rest of the team only combined for seven points in the loss.
  • The Falcons had two individuals with 20-plus points.
  • Barry led in second chance points and 12-10 and bench help at 16-7.
  • It was a close battle in the paint as Montevallo had the narrow edge of 38-32.
  • The Bucs out-rebounded the Falcons 43-32 and had more blocks at 6-4.

ON THE HORIZON:
The Bucs move ahead to play no. 6 Alabam-Huntsville on Saturday to conclude play at the crossover.
