Volleyball Takes Top-10 Match Against Lynn

The Bucs take the regular season series win over Fighting Knights

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.   Barry Women's Volleyball bounced back with a top-10 win against rival, ninth-ranked Lynn in a four-set match up on Tuesday evening from the Health and Sports Center Gym. This begins the second go around in Sunshine State Conference play where Barry sits in second.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Set One - A service ace for Thalia Iglesias got the match started and Barry the first lead. It was a back and forth affair that had the Buccaneers up 14-11. After a Lynn timeout, the Fighting Knights strung together a 10-0 run to make it 21-14. This lead ultimately held through the set as Lynn took the 1-0 match lead. | Lynn 25, Barry 20
  • Set Two - The Buccaneers once again grabbed the first lead with a kill from Veronika Eremeeva to start the second set. After a 3-3 tie, Barry took the lead with a kill from Valeriya Kozlova and led the remainder of the set. Frankie Good checked in and recorded the block solo to tie the match up at one all. | Barry 25, Lynn 23
  • Set Three - Yet another set begins with a Buccaneer kill as Kozlova records the first point in the third set. This kicked off a 3-0 run to set the early tone. The Bucs earned 22 of the 25 points in the set with 19 kills coming from seven different players. Barry hit .567 in the set with just two errors. The defense held Lynn to single digit kills and a .194 hitting percentage. | Barry 25, Lynn 17
  • Set Four - Ivana Žujovic got the party started with a kill right down the middle for the 1-0 lead. Barry once again had a 3-0 run for the early lead. It was a multi-point lead that was as big a five and as small at one. Eremeeva had seven of her 19 kills on the fourth set. Good and Osychenko closed out the set with a finger-tip block in the middle. | Barry 25, Lynn 19

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Veronika Eremeeva had a season-high 19 kills, with just three errors hitting .444.
  • Valeriya Kozlova had her 10th straight double-digit kill performance with 15 kills. She had just two errors on 36 attempts hitting .361.
  • Varvara Osychenko had eight kills and 14 digs.
  • Alondra Lebron checked in and held the back row with 11 digs and passed a perfect 40 serves.
  • Thalia Iglesias anchored the offense with 36 assists for her sixth straight match at 30-plus.
  • Frankie Good had a career-high seven blocks in the match with one solo and six assists.
  • It is the fourth 50-plus kill match for the Bucs.
  • It is the ninth match with double-digit blocks for the team.
  • Statistically, the Bucs won every category minus digs, and dominating in blocks 13 to 1.
