MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers opened the 2025 season with a 9-8 win over the Wingate Bulldogs, giving head coach DJ Price his first win and avenging last season's loss in the opener at Feinbloom Field on Friday night.

• B1 - Jimmy Bruno and Harry Vargas Seguera led off the innings with singles. Bruno scored on a wild pitch and Vargas Segura came in on a ground out. | Barry 2, Wingate 0
• T3 - The Bulldogs took the lead on a three-run homer from Sean Sullivan. | Wingate 3, Barry 2
• B3 -  Barry grabbed the lead right back in the bottom of the inning. Vargas Seguera doubled to right center and scored on a sacrifice fly by Zak Rice. After a double by Felix Diaz and a walk to Savi Delgado, Nick Toms launched a massive three-run shot of his own. | Barry 6, Wingate 3
• T4 - Alex Naylor struck out to start the inning, but reached on a passed ball. He later scored on a ground out. | Barry 6, Wingate 4
• B4 - Bruno singled and stole second and came around on a two-run homer from Vargas Seguera. | Barry 8, Wingate 4
• T6 - The Bulldogs chipped a couple runs off the lead in the sixth. Cam Harris had an RBI single and Sullivan added a sacrifice fly. | Bary 8, Wingate 6
• T7 - Wingate knotted the game up in the seventh on a couple Buccaneer miscues. Landon Meyer scored on an error and Alex Naylor, who reached on the error, came home on a walk to Cam Harris with two outs. | Barry 8, Wingate 8
• B8 - Vargas Seguera pulled the game out for the Bucs in the eighth inning. After a single and stolen base by Bruno, Vargas Segura ripped a double down the right field line to plate the winning run. | Barry 9, Wingate 8

NOTEWORTHY:

• Jack Ensell (1-0), who got the Bucs out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh, worked two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out three to pick up the win.
• Dalton Williams got the final out to earn his first save.
• Marshall Raper (0-1) worked one inning, allowing a run on two hits to take the loss for Wingate.
• Vargas Seguera went 4-for-5 with a homer, two doubles, a stolen base, three runs and three RBI to lead Barry at the plate.
• Toms was 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI, while Bruno was 3-for-5 with three runs from the lead off spot.
• Jake Courville and Wyatt Hoffman each had two hits to lead the Bulldogs, while Sullivan drove in four runs and Naylor scored three.
• The January game was the first for Barry since the 2016 season.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs host the #21/24 Mount Olive Trojans on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 6:00 pm. The Trojans opened the season with a 12-8 win over Lynn.
