Women's Basketball Loses To Eckerd At Home

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. --  The Barry Buccaneers lost 91-48 to the Eckerd Tritons in Sunshine State Conference women's basketball action on Cesar Odio Court on Saturday.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - Eckerd started the game bombing away from three-point range, but Barry led 8-6 after a layup by Kyrstin Greene with 5:53 to play. The Tritons reclaimed the lead with a pair of triples from Lisa Michaelsen and Chance Bucher. It swung back to Barry as Audrey Jennings hit a pair from the line and Emma Wallhoff drilled a three-pointer.   • 2Q - Eckerd scored the first 14 points of the second quarter, to complete a 19-0 run and never trailed the rest of the way. After another pair of free throws from Jennings, the Tritons scored nine straight again. They led at the half. | Eckerd 47, Barry 22

  • 4Q - After trading baskets cut the lead to 76-46 on a layup by Hayley Chiles at 6:04, the Bucs went cold from the field as the Tritons scored 15 straight to make the lead 45. Kaliyah Morales hit a final shot to make the margin 43. | Eckerd 91, Barry 48

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Bucher led all scorers with 23 points, getting 17 from Emma Egan off the bench and 14 each from Korzane and Jaylen Ostenson.
  • Chiles was the only Buc in double figure with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting in just eight minutes of action.
  • Aijah Palmore had 11 rebounds to maintain her lead in the conference standings, as Barry led 40-37 on the glass.
  • The Tritons hit 16-of-30 from three-point range, tying for seventh in SSC single game history.
  • They also out-scored the Bucs 32-24 in the paint. 
  • The Bucs entered the game 6-1 at home, while the Tritons were 6-1 on the road.

ON THE HORIZON:
The Bucs will face the 24th-ranked Tampa Spartans on Wednesday, Jan. 22 in the HSC.
