MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers opened the 2024 women's soccer season with a 4-2 win over the Edward Waters Tigers on Thursday at Buccaneer Field.

- 11:13 - The Tigers broke the ice in the 12th minute. Rose-Bertude Rosinvil won the ball from the Bucs' defense near midfield and carried it all the way into the box and beat Barry keeper Paige Leary to the near post. | EWU 1, Barry 0
- 24:08 - Barry evened the score in the 25th minute. Anabel Toledo took the ball at the top left corner of the box and found Katelyn Billoch who tapped it outside to Ashley Finn. Finn went into the top corner for the equalizer. | Barry 1, EWU 1

- 78:37 - The Bucs' winner came on another long shot goal, this time from Toledo. After another clearance out to 45 yards, Toledo immediately sent it back beating new keeper Sheila Pascal. | Barry 3, EWU 2
- 84:20 - Barry scored an insurance goal in the 85th minute. Ashley Finn won the ball in the back and strolled in for a 1x1 with Pascal for the goal. | Barry 4, EWU 2
NOTEWORTHY:
- The win was the first Buccaneer win for head coach Jay Harris, after six seasons with South Carolina-Beaufort.
- Barry out-shot the Tigers 19-8, including 11-3 on goal.
- Paige Leary allowed two goals, but made one save to earn her first win for the Bucs.
- The Tigers split duties between Olivia Galloway, who had four saves in 59 minutes, and Sheila Pascal who finished the game with three saves. Each keeper allowed two goals. PAscal took the loss for EWU.
- Finn had two goals in her Buccaneer debut. The last time a Buc scored a brace was Toledo last year against the Tigers.
- Toledo had a goal and assist, splitting her time between forward and defense.
- The win was the second in the series against the Tigers. The teams meet again this season in Jacksonville, Fla., on Sept. 16.
