Volleyball's Winning Streak Extends Into SSC Play

Block party leads to eighth straight victory

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. Offense and defense come together for Sunshine State Conference (SSC) opener against Palm Beach Atlantic. Barry adds another victim to the sweep list downing PBA in straight sets to improve to 8-0 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Set One - Barry came out and dominated out of the gate. The offense swung a .529 clip on 10 kills and committing just one attacking error. The defense also chipped in four blocks and held the Sailfish to a negative hitting percentage. Veronika Eremeeva had three kills and a block in the set. | Barry 25, Palm Beach Atlantic 10
  • Set Two - The Bucs used a six-point swing to turn the tables as the Jeyhlen Thomas block party began. Thomas had three straight blocks to help push momentum in favor of Barry. The defense once again forced many attack errors as the Sailfish swung .040 in set. | Barry 25, Palm Beach Atlantic 18
  • Set Three - The third set closed out with attacking effort coming from all different angles as four different Bucs delivered on multiple kills. Varvara Osychenko locked in for five kills in these. Barry had a match-high 14 kills in the set swinging .345 and forcing PBA to nine kills with a .100 hit percentage. | Barry 25, Palm Beach Atlantic 19

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The defense has limited opponent kills with 21 of 24 sets being in single digits.
  • Barry has recorded the first point in 20 of 24 sets this season.
  • This is the first time Barry has started 8-0 with 24 consecutive sets won.
  • It is the fourth time in program history that Barry has won 24 consecutive sets (1994, 1996, 2003).
  • Eremeeva led the way for the first time this season with 10 kills and three service aces.
  • Thomas set a new career high in blocks with seven, while recording three kills as well.
  • Petra Brkicic had her second 30-assist match with 31 while also adding a career-high five blocks.
  • Gaia Riedmuller had 10 digs; her sixth double-digit dig match this season.
  • Ivana Zujovic had a stand out performance with four kills, three service aces, three digs and swinging .571.
ON THE HORIZON:

Barry will come back home after a five game road stint for their SSC Home Opener against rival 19th ranked Lynn on Friday, September 27 with first serve set is schedule for 7:00 p.m.
