MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— Samantha Blakely joins the Barry University athletic staff as assistant athletic director for sports medicine/health care coordinator this fall, director of athletics Dr. Scott Smith announced.
Blakely brings over 14 years experience in athletic training, from the clinical level, through high school, college and professional sports, as well as the entertainment industry.
She most recently served as the traveling athletic trainer to Jurassic World Live, traveling with the company across the country providing care to staff, cast and crew. She also served as the workers comp liaison and COVID Compliance Officer.
She was the concussion clinic coordinator at Holy Cross Health from 2018 to 2022. She provided concussion spotting coverage at games, including with St. Thomas Aquinas High, InterMiami soccer, American Top Team and other local events. She sat as the concussion chairperson on the Broward County Athletic Association Health and Wellness Committee.
She worked in professional arena football with the Tampa Bay Storm and Chicago Slaughter, as well as at high schools in Illinois and Florida.
She graduated with a bachelor's degree in athletic training from North Central College in Illinois and completed her master's in kinesiology from A.T. Still University in Missouri.
She holds board certification in athletic training and has been a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association since 2007. She has been licensed in Florida since 2011.
In addition to the athletic training staff, she also oversees the Buccaneer strength & conditioning staff in her role as health care administrator.
Gonzalez
Mack
In addition to Blakely, two more members have joined the Buccaneer staff this fall in assistant athletic trainers Shawnee Gonzalez and Jamar Mack. Gonzalez graduated from Texas-Permian Basin in 2019 with a bachelor's in athletic training and a minor in biology. She earned her MBA from UTPB in 2022. Mack is double graduate of Point Loma Nazarene in California, getting his undergraduate degree in health & human performance and master's in athletic training.
