Women's Tennis Punches Ticket To Orlando

Bucs advance to national finals for the 27th time

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The No. 1 nationally-ranked, No. 1 seeded Bucs defeated No. 5 nationally-ranked, No. 4 seeded Embry-Riddle 4-1 in the South Region 1 Championship on Saturday morning to punch their ticket to nationals. 

Final: No. 1 Barry 4, No. 5 Embry-Riddle 1

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Embry-Riddle took an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles points at No. 1 and 3. 
  • Versier made quick work of Tripaldelli at No. 6 singles to knot the match up at one. 
  • Alloiarova put the Bucs up 2-1 at after winning in straight-sets at No. 4 singles. 
  • Dema gave the Bucs their third point after winning at No. 2 singles. 
  • Michalitsch clinched the South Region Championship for the Bucs at No. 1 singles. 

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The Bucs conquered their 18th overall regional championship, seventh in a row. 
  • Barry will appear in the National Finals for the 27th time as a program, the most of any Division II program. 
  • The Bucs will look to win their seventh-straight national championship. 

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs advance to the National Finals May 21-25 in Orlando, Fla., at Sanlando Park.
