Baseball Wins Opening Game Over Eagles

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers beat the Embry-Riddle Eagles 8-4 in the opening game  of their Sunshine State Conference baseball series at Sliwa Field on Friday night.

SUMMARY:

  • T3 - The Bucs got on the board first. Brandon Sanchez was hit by a pitch from Eagle starter Dillon Moran and later scored on a single by Bradon Forchic. | Barry 1, ERAU 0
  • B5 - Timo Aracena put the Eagles in front briefly with a two-run homer. | ERAU 2, Barry 1
  • T6 - Barry surged back in the lead in the top of the sixth. Forchic doubled in Freddy Rodriguez. Kevin Noriega singled to drive in Forchic and Evan Wickeri. Noriega scored on a double play, and Sanchez doubled to drive in Nick Toms, who walked. Sanchez later stole home on the front end of a double steal. | Barry 7, ERAU 2
  • T7 - Barry tacked on another run in the seventh. Wickeri singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Savi Delgado. | Barry 8, ERAU 2

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Angel Cespedes (8-3) continued his hot streak on the mound, working 8.0 innings on only 99 pitches. He allowed three runs on nine hits and a walk and struck out two.
  • Moran (7-3) took the loss that snapped the Eagles seven-game winning streak. He gave up five runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks in five innings.
  • Forchic went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI. 
  • Wickeri had two hits and scored twice.
  • Noriega also drove in two runs.
  • Aracena was one of four Eagles with two hits. He homered, scored twice and drove in two.
