Baseball Loses Pair To Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers lost both ends of the Saturday doubleheader to the top-ranked Tampa Spartans in their Sunshine State Conference baseball series at UT Baseball Field. Tampa took game one 7-3 and took the finale x-x.

  • B1 - Tampa grabbed a big early lead with four runs in the first inning. Valdez and Brayden Woodburn had RBI singles. | Tampa 4, Barry 0
  • B5 - The Spartans added a run on a double play. | Tampa 5, Barry 0
  • T6 - Bary broke through in the sixth. Delgado walked with two outs and scored ahead of an Sean Shelly double. | Tampa 5, Barry 1
  • T8 - Shelly had an RBI single to score Noriega and Albert Espinosa knocked in Delgado with a base hit to right. | Tampa 5, Barry 3
  • B8 - David Gutcher doubled to right center to score Maddox King, who led off with a double. | Tampa 6, Barry 3

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Skylar Gonzalez (12-0) improved to 12-0 with seven innings work. He allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk and struck out just one.
  • Anthony Bennetti (0-4) took the loss in game one for the Bucs, despite allowing only one earned run. 
  • Jake Stipp (5-0) went five scoreless innings to get the win for Tampa in the finale. He walked five, but gave up just two hits.
  • Joe Morrisey (4-4) went 5.1 innings, but allowed five runs (three earned) on eight hits and two walks.
  • Delgado was 3-for-4 in the twin bill, scoring three runs. 
  • Noriega was 3-for-8, including a homer, with two runs and two RBI.
  • Cumbo led Tampa with four hits. 

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs close the home schedule with three games against Nova Southeastern, Friday-Sunday, May 3-5.
