MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers won the opening game of a Sunshine State Conference baseball series 7-5 over the visiting Sharks or Nova Southeastern on Friday night at Feinbloom Field.

After a base hit for Freddy Rodriguez and a Evan Wickeri was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Braden Forchic dropped down a squeeze bunt to Menendez. NOTEWORTHY:
- Angel Cespedes (7-2) picked up his team-leading seventh win. He worked six innings, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks, while striking out six.Â
- Federico Zapata retired the final five Sharks in order, two on strikeouts, to earn his eighth save. He passed Daniel Broeseker for sole possession of third place on the Buccaneer career save list.
- Collin Rothermel (7-3) took the loss for the Sharks. He allowed five run on four hits and a walk in 2.2 innings.
- Rodriguez went 3-for-3 with a double and a walk, scored one run and drove in two to lead the Bucs at the plate. He raised his average to .406.
- Diaz was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while Menendez also had two hits and Toms scored twice.
- Peña, who scored three time, led the Sharks' bats.Wachs had two hits.
