Softball Splits Doubleheader With Florida Tech

MIAMI SHORES, FLA. - Highlighted by a two-home run showing from Caroline Figueroa on Saturday, the Barry University softball team split its Sunshine State Conference doubleheader against Florida Tech 16-4, 6-1. During the doubleheader, the Buccaneers honored seniors Alexis Bailey and Angel Villanueva.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
  • B1| Loading the bases off two walks and a hit by pitch, Paige White sent Harper Bunn home on a sacrifice fly before a single from Alexis Toledo scored Cassandra Lee to quickly create a 2-0 lead.
  • B3| Leading off the frame with a Figueroa home run, the Bucs followed it up with a double and single back-to-back before a Sofia Chamorro sacrifice bunt plated pinch-runnering Jadyn Rogers to extend Barry's lead to 4-0.
  • T4| Fueled by a pair of home runs, Florida Tech scored seven runs in the frame to take a 7-4 advantage.
  • T5| A double and sacrifice fly for FIT scored three runs to extend their lead to 10-4. 
  • T6| The Panthers took advantage of a Barry error to score a run and make it 11-4.
  • T7| Capped by a home run, the visitors scored five runs in the final inning to push their lead to 16-4. 
NOTEWORTHY (GAME 1)
  • Figueroa 2-2 with a home run.
  • Bunn went 2-2 with one run scored.
  • Toledo went 2-3 with one RBI.
  • Samantha Rosenberger got the start, allowing six runs off seven hits.

  • B1| Reaching base on a leadoff single, Brooklyn Rushton rounded the bases off a Figueroa single to give Barry the early 1-0 lead.
  • T4| FIT evened the score off a leadoff home run.
  • B5| Keeping the stanza alive with a two-out walk, Toledo rounded the bases off a Mac Stone-Folmar double before a double from Chandler Barry scored Chamorro and Stone-Folmar to take a 4-1 advantage.
  • B6| A two-run homer from Figeuroa extended Barry's lead to 6-1
NOTEWORTHY (GAME 2)
  • Figueroa went 2-4 with a home run and three RBI.
  • White went 2-4.

  • Maci Barnhart tossed a complete game with one run allowed off four hits while striking out one batter.
