Baseball Falls To Vulcans

Bucs lose fifth straight

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry fell 12-6 to the California-Pennsylvania Vulcans at Feinbloom Field in non-conference baseball action Friday afternoon

SUMMARY:

  • T1 - Brett Bobin singled with one out and scored on a double by Santino Marra.  | CUP 1, Barry 0
  • B2 - Barry took the lead briefly in the second inning. With two outs Felix Diaz reached on an error and Sean Shelly walked. Matthew Menendez singled to tied the game. Freddy Rodriguez gave the Bucs the lead with a single to left and Jimmy Bruno capped the inning with a single to right. | Barry 3, CUP 1
  • T3 - Ryan Callahan singled with two outs and later scored on a base hit by Colin Patterson. | BArry 3, CUP 2
  • T5 - The wheels came off for the Bucs in the fifth as the Vulcans scored four unearned runs. Marra reached on a throwing error by Diaz. Payton Conte singled to put runners at the corners. Marra scored on a single by Patterson. Jayden Taitano singled to drive in Conte, Nathan Meeks delivered a base hit to score Patterson and Colby Rockacy capped the inning with an RBI double. | CUP 6, Barry 3
  • B6 - Barry cut the lead to one in the sixth. Rodriguez led off with a double and scored on a base hit by Evan Wickeri. After a single by Braden Forchic, Wickeri came home as Forchic was pick of first. | CUP 6, Barry 5
  • T7 - The Vulcans scored six in the seventh. Taitano blasted a three-run homer to center. Meeks singled, stole second and third and scored on a throwing error by Menendez. After a pair of walks, Bobin drove in a run with a single and another came home on a fly ball. | CUP 12, Barry 5
  • B9 - Brandon Sanchez delivered a leadoff homer in the ninith. | CUP 12, Barry 6

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Nathan Holmes (1-0) worked five innings allowing three unearned runs in his first start of the season. He gave up seven hits and three walks and struck out five. 
  • Joe Morrisey (1-2) was plagued by unearned runs again, with four of the six runs allowed unearned. He worked 4.2 innings, nad did not walk a batter, but allowed 12 hits.
  • Rodriguez and Forchic each had three hits for the Bucs. Rodriguez launched his team-leading 10th double.
  • Bruno and Sanchez each had two hits.
  • Meeks, who came into the contest batting .174, went 4-for-5 to lead the Vulcans. 
  • Taitano drove in four runs. 

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs host the Eagles of Post University in a three-game set on Saturday and Sunday.
