Extra-Inning Triumph Lifts Softball To Doubleheader Split With #21 Rollins

WINTER PARK, FLA. - Looking to split their third doubleheader against a nationally-ranked opponent on Thursday, the Barry University softball team held 21st-ranked Rollins off the scoreboard for nine innings in the second game of the twinbill before a Maggie Boyd single scored Alexis Toledo for the game-winning run in a 1-0 triumph after falling in the opener 9-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)

  • B1| Rollins capitalized on a Barry wild pitch to score the opening run of the day.
  • B4| Getting two runners on base via a pair of singles, the host extended their lead to 4-0 off a three-run homer.
  • B5| Back-to-back base hits to start the frame followed by a home run created a 7-0 score.
  • T6| Barry took advantage of four Tars' errors in the stanza to score five runs.
  • B6| Leading off the frame with a base hit and advancing the runner to third on a Bucs' error, Rollins extended their lead with a sacrifice fly before a RBI single made it 9-5

NOTEWORTHY (GAME 1)

  • Sofia Chamorro recorded three RBI off a double.
  • Brooklyn Rushton went 1-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
  • Toledo went 1-2 with one run scored.
  • Alexis Martin pitched 5.1 innings with nine runs allowed, seven earned, off 10 hits with six strikeout..
