RICHMOND, Va. -- The Barry Buccaneers, in their first semester of swimming, were accorded as a Scholar All-America Team by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) in the fall of 2023.
"Part of the Barry module is to have exceptional academics, along with the athletics," head coach Noah Moran said. "We're very proud of both squads for their tremendous work, both in the pool and in the classroom."
The 13 women posted a combined 3.61 GPA in the fall. They were tied for 17th among the 74 NCAA Division II women's teams awarded. The 14 men combined for a 3.47 GPA, ranking tied for ninth out of 56 men's programs on the list.
In order to qualify for this prestigious recognition, teams had to exhibit a 3.0 grade point average during the Fall 2023 semester.
Samantha Barany, Executive Director of the CSCAA, commented on the impressive accomplishments, saying, "The dedication to academic excellence displayed by these teams is truly commendable. It is heartening to witness student-athletes thriving both in the pool and in their academic pursuits. The CSCAA is proud to recognize and celebrate the hard work and commitment of these teams."
