Baseball Wins Conference-Opening Series Over Mocs

Bucs take one of two on Saturday

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers won their Sunshine State Conference opening series over the Florida Southern Moccasins on Saturday by splitting a doubleheader. The Bucs won 6-5, but dropped the finale 10-4 at Feinbloom Field.

Game 1 - Barry 6, FSC 5

  • B2 - Barry got three runs in the second. Evan Wickeri and Nick Toms led off with singles and moved up on a bunt. Sean Shelly delivered an RBI single to score Wickeri and, after a walk to Matthew Menendez, Freddy Rodriguez doubled down the right field line to score Shelly and Toms. | Barry 3, FSC 0

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Federico Zapata (1-0) got the last two outs in the ninth in game one to get the win.
  • Frank II Gonzalez worked five innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
  • Casey O'Dell (0-2) took the loss for the Mocs in game one. He worked 3.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk.
  • Logan Adams (1-1) went five innings, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks to get the win in the nightcap.
  • Angel Cespedes (2-1) was tagged with his first loss of the season for the Bucs. He went five innings, allowing five runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks.
  • Noriega led the Bucs at the plate with three hits. 
  • Toms had two hits, including the homer, scored twice and drove in three.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry hosts cross-town rival Nova Southeastern on Tuesday, Feb. 27 in a non-conference game.
