Baseball Takes Down Sharks In Non-Conference Matchup

Murgo picked up his second win and Zapata his third save

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers took down the cross-town Nova Southeastern Sharks 8-5 in non-conference baseball action from Feinbloom Field on Tuesday night.

  • T1 - Justin Wachs was hit by a pitch, went to third on a failed pick-off attempt and scored on a fly ball for the first run of the game. | NSU 1, Barry 0
  • B1 - Freddy Rodriguez walked and scored on a single by Evan Wickeri. Kevin Noriega, who had also walked, came home as Wickeri was thrown out stealing. | Barry 2, NSU 1

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Dominic Murgo III (2-0) worked 2.2 scoreless innings in relief of starter Chase Muir to pick up his second win. He allowed two hits and did not walk or strike out a batter. 
  • Federico Zapata tossed the last 1.1 innings to earn his third save, striking one one batter to end the game.
  • Kader Rabaugh (1-1) took the loss for NSU, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks in 3.2 innings.
  • Sanchez led the Buccaneer bats going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Bruno had two hits.
  • Rodriguez and Diaz each scored two run.
  • Zeth Rodriguez led NSU with four RBI.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs head to St. Leo, Fla., this weekend for their first Sunshine State Conference road series at #10 Saint Leo.
