Walk-Off Winner; Softball Outlasts Mines In Extra Innings For Doubleheader Split

Miami Shores, Fla. - Trailing by three runs in the bottom of the sixth of the second game of Sunday's doubleheader, the Barry University softball team rallied to force extra innings before defeating Colorado School of Mines in the eighth inning 5-4 after falling in the opener 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
  • T1| Leading off the contest with a base hit, Aragon put the Mines ahead 1-0 on a double-steal attempt.
  • B1| Keeping the inning alive with a two-out single, Cassandra Lee and Caroline Figueroa scored off a Paige White double to flip the one-run advantage.
  • T3| Loading the bases with one out, the visitors scored two runs off a single to take a one-run lead.
 
NOTEWORTHY (GAME 1)
  • Lee went 3-3 with one RBI.
  • White went 2-3 with two RBI.
  • Mac1 Barnhart threw a complete game, allowing three runs off seven hits while striking out nine batter.
  • For Colorado School of Mines, Aragon and Oshiro-Sano both recorded two hits.
  • Both sides tallied seven hits with six runners on base and no errors.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
  • T3| A solo home runs for the Mines gave them a 1-0 lead.
  • T6| A two-out single and triple back-to-back with two outs scored two runs to extend the visitors' lead to 3-0.
  • B6| Reaching base with a leadoff bunt, Taylor Thompson got the Bucs on the scoreboard off a Mac Stone-Folmar RBI single before a White single scored Harper Bunn made it a one-run game at 3-2.
  • B7| Using a coaches challenge for the first time in program history to overturn a called out, Stone-Folmar knotted the score with a two-out single that scored Thompson.
  • T8| Mines took a 4-3 lead off a one-out single.
  • B8| Loading the bases with no outs, Barry evened the score off an Alexis Toledo single before a Sofia Chamorro walk ended the game.
 
NOTEWORTHY (GAME 2)
  • The 5-4 score mirrors Barry's 12-inning triumph over the Mines last season.
  • Barry is the only school in the Sunshine State Conference that has coaches' challenges this season.
  • Stone-Fomar went 2-4 with two RBI.
  • Thompson went 2-2 with two stolen bases and two runs scored.
  • Alexis Martin threw a complete-game, allowing four runs with three earned off seven hits while striking out three.
  • For Mines, Ton went 2-4 with one run scored.
  • Both sides tallied seven hits with no errors.
  • Barry left five runners on base, Mines stranded four.

Barry welcomes nationally-ranked East Stroudsburg on Monday, Feb. 12 with first pitch of the doubleheader slated for 11 am.
