Women's Tennis Conquers Blazers At Home

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The No. 1 ranked Barry Buccaneers women's tennis team defeated the Valdosta State Blazers 4-1 on Saturday morning at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • VSU got on the board first by winning the doubles point. VSU was able to secure wins at doubles No. 1 and No. 2. 
  • The Bucs knotted things up at one when Leweurs won in straigt sets at No. 5 singles. 
  • Barry then gained a 3-1 advantage when Haumüller and Versier both won in straigth sets at singles No. 6 and No. 4.
  • The Bucs clinched the victory at singles No. 3, where Dema won in straight sets, defeating Pezo in the seventh game tie-breaker in the second set. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Alloiarova (2-0), Leweurs (3-0) and Versier (1-0) all remain undefeated in singles on the year. 
  • Barry has won 13 straight matches against the Blazers, dating back to Feb. 15, 2010. 

ON THE HORIZON

The Bucs will take on their first ranked opponent of the year tomorrow, Feb. 11, when they take on #25th ranked Tampa at the Buccaneer Tennis Center starting at 11:00 a.m.
