Women's Basketball Loses On The Road To Sailfish

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. --  The Barry Buccaneers lost 66-59 to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on the road in Sunshine State Conference women's basketball action from Rubin Arena on Wednesday night.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - Tied 4-4, the Sailfish ran off a 9-1 run to take the lead 13-5 over the next five minutes.  | PBA 15, Barry 6
  • 2Q - The Sailfish pushed the lead to double figures with 6:56 left in the half on a layup by Kash Ayuso and maintined a 10-point lead at the break. | PBA 25, Barry 15
  • 3Q - After PBA scored the first basket of the second half, Barry went on a 9-0 run, capped by a bucket from Zaaliyah Kailahi-Fulu with just under six minutes left in the third. But PBA used a 14-5 run over the next four minutes to retake a 12-point margin on another basket from Ayuso. Barry closed to within five at the break. | PBA 41, Barry 36
  • 4Q - Both teams had their most productive periods in the fourth. Barry closed back to within three points, 41-38 on a pair of free throws by Colleen Bucknor. But Ayuso hit a three-pointer with 5:55 left that put the 'Fish back up by 11 and PBA held off a late charge by the Bucs to hold on for the win. | PBA 66, Barry 59

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Audrey Jennings, who was held scoreless in the first half, led the Bucs in scoring with 14 points in the second half. It was her eighth straight game leading the team.
  • Kailahi-Fulu had a season-high 10 points off the bench for the Bucs, hitting 4-of-6 from the field.
  • Bucknor also chipped in 10 points and grabbed six rebounds.
  • Kayla Lindsey had eight points, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals.
  • Ayuso led all scorers with 27 points for the Sailfish and Gabrielle Wener added 15 points.
  • Ayuso had a double-double, turning the ball over 10 times.
  • Barry out-rebounded PBA 41-29, and out-scored the hosts 15-3 on second-chance points.

ON THE HORIZON:
The Bucs host the Rollins Tars in their first conference home game on Saturday, Dec. 7 in the Health & Sports Center.
