Men's Basketball Drops Contest To Florida Memorial

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University Men's Basketball team dropped their final home contest of 2024 80-78 to the Florida Memorial Lions in the Health & Sports Center on Thursday.

SUMMARY:

  • 1H - After a back-and-forth start to the game, Barry used a 15-3 run to take a 10-point lead, 29-19 with 7:29 left in the half on a layup by Adren Roberts. But the Lions responded with a 10-0 run over the next four minute to tie the game at 29-29 on a dunk by Mohamad Diallo. Barry hit back-to-back three-pointers by Reggie Reinhardt and Jimel Lane to rebuild a lead, but the Lions scored the final seven points to go into the break up by one. | Florida Memorial 36, Barry 35
  • 2H - The Lions used an 8-0 run to take their largest lead 57-48 with 13:07 remaining. But Barry rolled off a 15-4 run over the next 4:26 to re-take the lead 63-61 on a triple by Lane. FMU scored eight of the next nine points and never trailed the rest of the way. Gabe Hernandez cut the lead to three on a triple with 0:05 seconds left and after Terri Hamilton hit just one of two from the line, Hernandez was fouled with half a tick left on a three pointer. NOTEWORTHY:

  • It is the first loss to the Lions since 2011.
  • Hernandez led the Bucs with 23 points and Lane added 16.
  • Latavious Mitchell led four Lions in double figures with 17. Diallo came off the bench with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
  • The much larger Lions led 44-36 on the glass, although second-chance points were even at 13-13.
  • FMU dominated in the paint, 40-26.
  • Barry shot just 11-of-20 from the free throw line, while the Lions were 16-21.

ON THE HORIZON:
Barry ends the semester at the Century Retail Christmas Classic at Florida Southern facing New Haven and Lander.
