Men's Basketball Win Streak Comes to An End

The Bucs fall on the road to #1-ranked NSU

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University Men's Basketball team crossed over to the 954 for the first basketball County-Line Cup matchup against Nova Southeastern on Saturday afternoon. The Bucs fell short against the no.1 ranked Sharks in the Rick Case Arena.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Final: Barry 77, #1 Nova Southeastern 119
Records: Barry (5-4, 2-2 SSC), Nova Southeastern (10-0, 3-0 SSC)
All-Time Series: Barry leads 42-34

SUMMARY:

  • 1H - A tough full court press setup early turnovers for Barry as they collected 17 in the first half. NSU led by as many as 30-points with just under five minutes remaining. Gabe Hernandez led a surge of a 15-4 run that would send the game to halftime trailing by just 18. Hernandez had seven of the 15 while Jimel Lane was right behind with five points. | Nova Southeastern 54, Barry 36
  • 2H - Although a big hole was dug, it would not have been anything new for the Bucs to dig themselves out of. Unfortunately the defense from the Sharks and capitalizing on points off turnovers would continue to just push their lead further out of reach. Lane highlighted the second half with 12-second half points in 13 minutes. | Nova Southeastern 119, Barry 77

NOTEWORTHY:

  • This ends a four-game win streak for the Buccaneers.
  • This marks the largest margin of defeat against NSU ever.
  • Jimel Lane led all Buccaneer scorers with 21-points, scoring 10 field goals.
  • Gabe Hernandez was right behind with 20-points, shooting 80% from the field.
  • Reggie Reinhardt came off the bench and scored a career-high nine-points in nine minutes.
  • Akeem Crandon had 11 rebounds as Barry was just behind the Sharks at 39-40 on the glass.
  • Barry's bench out-scored the Sharks 19-8.
  • NSU had 48 points off turnovers and 56 in the paint to dominate both categories.
