Women's Basketball Dominates Battle Of The Buccaneers

Jennings, Morales and Bucknor all post season highs

MEMPHIS, Tenn. --  The Barry Buccaneers dominated the Battle Of The Buccaneers, beating the host Christian Brothers Buccaneers 94-64 in Canale Arena in the Sunshine State Conference/Gulf South Conference Crossover Women's Basketball Tournament on Saturday.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - Jasmine Jones hit a layup with 8:44 left in the first period to give Christian Brothers an early 2-1 advantage. But after Aijah Palmore gave Barry a 3-2 lead, CBU trailed the rest of the way. A Colleen Bucknor basket at 5:14 pushed the Barry lead to double figures, 13-2 and capped a 12-0 run. | Barry 20, CBU 15
  • 2Q - Jones connected for the first basket of the second quarter to cut the lead to three, 20-17, but Barry went on a 9-0 run, capped by a triple from Audrey Jennings to go back up by double figures and CBU never got closer than 10 points the rest of the way.   • 3Q - Leading by 20+ for most of the quarter, Hailey Chiles hit a layup with 4:08 remaining to make the lead 30 points, 73-43.  | Barry 79, CBU 49
  • 4Q - Barry led by less than 30 in the final period, taking their largest lead of 37, 90-53, on a Madison McFerrin three-pointer with 5:18 to play. | Barry 94, CBU 64

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Jennings led all scorers with 25 points, hitting 7-of-11 from the field and 8-of 10 from the line.
  • Freshman Kaliyah Morales had a career-high 13 points and added five steals.
  • Colleen Bucknor chipped in 10 points and a team-high six rebounds.
  • Barry again dominated the glass, 38-26, including 11-7 on the offensive end. They led 21-12 in second-chance points.
  • Barry also led 18-6 in fast-break points and 14-13 off turnovers.
  • Barry also got 41 points off the bench. 
  • Jones led CBU with 12 points, while Jada Hood and Valencia McFall each had 10.

ON THE HORIZON:
Barry returns home on Wednesday, Nov. 13 to face the Conquistadors of Florida National at 6:00 pm on Cesar Odio Court.
