HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Barry University's cross-country programs embark on the final stretch to championship glory this weekend. The apex of the cross-country season for the NCAA, the NCAA South Region championship, will begin this Saturday in Huntsville, Alabama at the John Hunt Park.
The Buccaneers are set to face not only their conferences rivals such as Tampa, Nova Southeastern, and Embry-Riddle they will also be facing the best and most athletic runners of the Southern region in this competition. Teams will have the opportunity to achieve greatness starting with the men's 10K race that begins at 8 a.m., followed by the women's 6K at 9:15 a.m.
This is the first time the Men's Cross-Country team will be participating in the NCAA South Region Championship, this new experience will provide the opportunity for exponential growth. The Barry Men's team will not be the only team featured as the Barry Women's team are led by Maryam Abreau, the only senior that has participated at the NCAA South Region Championship in the previous season.
COACHES CORNER:
The Barry squads have been steadily gaining experience this past season and they get the chance to show the results of their training on Saturday. Led by head coach Kevin Padin, he has been able to navigate the team to this opportunity through his calming presence and his strong belief in his athletes, his runners have been able achieving their goals of improving week to week. Padin shares this message to his team going into the final stretch of the season.
"Every exposure to competition is a building block for our young team. We're excited for the opportunity to face off against so many great teams and continue growing together."
