Buccaneer Volleyball Sweeps Tritons

The Bucs take care of business to improve to 3-1 in SSC play

TAMPA, Fla.  Barry Volleyball stays focused ahead with a 2-0 sweep of the week in Sunshine State Conference play. The Buccaneers swept Eckerd on the road to close out the week Saturday evening from the Martinez Center in Tampa.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Set One - Eckerd jumped out to the early lead with a 5-1 lead over Barry. A service aces from Thalia Iglesias flipped the scoreboard and led to a 5-0 run that held for the remainder of the set. | Barry 25, Eckerd 19
  • Set Two - Barry took control early in the set taking a 4-3 advantage, ignited by a service ace from Veronika Eremeeva. The Bucs had as big as an 11-point surplus on the Tritons to reach set point at 24-13. The set ended with a kill from Diana Akopova. | Barry 25, Eckerd 14
  • Set Three - The Bucs gained the first point in the set for the first time in six sets. It sparked a 6-0 run that had Sarah Willey holding serve. The dominance lasted throughout the set with Barry swinging .500 locking down 15 kills. | Barry 25, Eckerd 18

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The defense held Eckerd to a .000 hitting percentage and recorded eight blocks.
  • Barry led in every statistical category.
  • Diana Akopova recorded15 kills with eight digs to lead the offense.
  • Thalia Iglesias led in assists for the first time this season with 20, a season-high for the sophomore.
  • Jeyhlen Thomas had five blocks and four kills on the night, swinging a .600 clip.
  • Gaia Riedmüller had 15 digs, with Varvara Osychenko right behind with 10 digs.

Barry will return home to take on local foe, Nova Southeastern from the Health & Sports Center on Thursday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m.
