Roberts Hosts Historic Block Party; Men's Basketball Outlasts Florida Southern In Double Overtime

MIAMI SHORES, Fla - Welcoming students back to the Health & Sports Center with their first home game of the spring semester on Wednesday evening, Adren Roberts made Barry University men's basketball history with the second triple-double in program history using 10 blocks alongside 10 points and 10 rebounds to power the Bucs past Florida Southern in a double-overtime thriller 116-112.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • 1H | Barry opened the contest with a triple, holding Florida Southern without a run of consecutive baskets while creating a double-digit lead at 23-12 with 13:34 remaining in the half. Florida Southern cut into the deficit behind a 5-0 run, knotting the score at 36-all before taking their first lead of the contest during a 6-0 run at 44-40 with 6:01 left in the half. Barry made it a one-point game off a three pointer, reclaiming the advantage at 53-51 only for a 5-0 Mocs' run making it 56-53 with 1:40 remaining in the half. Barry scored the final two points of the half to create a 56-55 halftime score.
  • 2H | Barry responded to a FSC layup to start the second half with four-straight points to reclaim the lead at 59-58 with 18:24 left to play. The Bucs connected on a triple sandwiching a pair of Florida Southern free throws and layup to knot the score at 62-62, with the two sides trading the ensuing 20 points before a 7-0 Barry run created a 79-72 lead with 8:40 left to play. The visitors made it a one-possession game behind a 4-0 run, evening the score at 82-all before pulling ahead 85-82 with 4:25 left to play. Florida Southern held onto the lead until a pair of Buccaneer free throws with 15 seconds left sent the contest to overtime.
  • OT1| Barry countered a 4-0 start to the extra time by Florida Southern with seven-straight points to take a 100-97 advantage with 1:53 left in overtime. The Mocs made it a one-point game off a late layup, sending the contest to a second overtime with a last-second basket following a made Barry free throw.
  • OT2| Trailing by one with 1:37 left in the second overtime, Barry used a 5-0 run to create a 114-110 lead with nine seconds left. The two sides traded the final four points to create the final score.

NOTEWORTHY:
  • Roberts recorded the triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks while adding five assists.
  • Tray Leonard recorded the first triple-double against Tampa on Feb. 20, 2016 with 13 points, 17 rebounds and 12 blocks.
  • Nick Anderson scored 25 points with five steals and five assists.
  • James Montgomery recorded a double-double behind 23 points and 14 rebounds.
  • Barry converted on 37-89 shots, going 10-25 from distance and 32-44 from the free throw line.
  • Florida Southern went 41-96 from the field, 7-18 from three-point territory and 23-28 from the free throw line.
  • Barry committed 16 turnovers, resulting in 17 points for the Mocs. Florida Southern committed 22 turnovers, leading to 22 points for Barry.
