Team Effort Powers Men's Basketball Past Tampa For Third-Straight Win

TAMPA, Fla - With all nine members of the Barry University men's basketball team who saw the court at Tampa on Saturday afternoon making at least one field goal and the team shooting 51 percent from the field, the Bucs won their third-straight game in an 84-78 triumph over the host Spartans.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • 1H | Tampa countered a Bucs' basket to start the contest with seven-straight points, creating an early double-digit advantage at 15-5 with 14:51 remaining in the first half. Barry flipped the lead behind a 12-0 run, with the lead changing hands six times over the ensuing two minutes before a 9-2 Buccaneer stretch created a 33-25 score with 6:07 left in the half. Barry pushed the lead to double-digits at 42-32, extending it to 11 at 45-34 before four points by Tampa in the final minute of the half made it 45-38.
  • 2H | Following a Spartans' jumper to kick off the second half, Barry scored 11-straight to boast a 56-40 advantage with 16:45 left to play. Tampa ended the run off four-straight points, with Barry keeping the lead in double figures until a late 7-0 rally made it 79-71 with 4:07 left to play. The Bucs responded with three-straight points, countering a pair of Tampa free throws with a layup to keep the lead at 11 before the Spartans scored the final five points.
NOTEWORTHY:
  • James Montgomery recorded his 10th double-double of the season behind 21 points and 11 rebounds, adding two blocks.
  • Gabe Hernandez sparked Barry's offense off the bench with 11 points and five assists.
