MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- First year head coach Heather Macy welcomes in the newcomers for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Sanaya Shrader, Madison McFerrin, Rachel Murray, Kayla Lindsey, Andreonia Doe, Audrey Jennings, Lauren Livingston, Holly Davies, Aijah Palmore, Britney Mapang and Mya Lewis round out the class.
Of the 11 newcomers, nine are transfers and two are freshman.
BRITNEY MAPANG
Mapang (5'9, Guard, JR) is an experienced guard with four years of experience at the collegiate level. She is known for her defense, being named the KJCCC Defensive Player of the Year in the 2021-22 season at Garden City CC, averaging a steal a game. In her three stops at Colby CC, Garden City CC and Arkansas-Little Rock, she played in 72 games, starting in 21 of them. She did not participate in the 2022-23 season at Arkansas-Little Rock due to being red-shirted. So far in her career she has averaged 3.2 points per game, 0.8 assist per game, 2.1 rebounds per game and a steal per game.
"Britney is a high energy player and will be an asset for us on the defensive end of the floor this year," Macy said.
"I chose Barry because of its deep commitment to academic athletic excellence and cultural diversity," Mapang said . "After talking with coach for several days, I think Barry is going to be a great fit for me."
LAUREN LIVINGSTON
Livingston (5'7, Guard, JR) is a transfer that followed coach Macy to Barry from Greensboro College. In her three seasons at Greensboro, she started in all 70 games. In the 2020-21 season, she was named All-USA South East Division after averaging a team-leading 18.6 points per game. In the 2021-22 season she averaged 16.7 points per game and led the Pride to a 25-2 record, and earned a spot on the All-USA First Team and was rewarded with the Kim Strable MVP Award. The 2022-23 season included her being selected Second-Team All-USA South after leading the Pride to a 26-3 record, a USA South Tournament Championship and a NCAA Tournament bid. Her career averages include 15.6 points per game, 2.9 rebounds per game and 5.3 assist per game.
"I chose Barry because its a great opportunity," Livingston said. "I also have a great relationship with coach Macy and grown into a mature person and because of her, my basketball game has elevated."
"Lauren has proven to be a mature and consistent point guard and I have confidence her game will continue to evolve," Macy said.
SANAYA SHRADER
Shrader (6'1, Center, JR) transfers in from Butte College, where she played two seasons. In her freshman season (2021-22), she led the Roadrunners to a 23-7 record and was named the GVC Freshman of the Year. In the 2022-23 season she started all 31 games, leading Butte to a 28-4 mark and a berth in the CCCAA championship game. She was named honorbale mention All-Golden Valley Conference. Her career averages are 7.5 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game.
"I chose Barry because I fell in love with the environment and the people," Shrader said.
"Sanaya has the athletic ability to extend our defense and give us an advantage on the glass," Macy said.
MADISON McFERRIN
McFerrin (5'8, Guard, JR) is a transfer from John Wood CC, where she played two seasons. She played in a total of 48 games, starting in 38 of them. In the 2022-23 season she earned both All-Region 24 and All-Midwest Athletic Conference honors, averaging 18.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.0 assist and 2.0 steals per game. Her career averages are 12.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.2 assist per game.
"I chose Barry because I loved the culture of the team and it felt like home when I visited the school," McFerrin said.
"Madison can score the three-ball and allow us to space differently on offense," Macy said.
RACHEL MURRAY
Murray (5'7, Guard, SR) is a transfer from conference foe Embry-Riddle, where she played three seasons. She has played in a total of 77 games, starting in 51 of them. In the 2022-23 season, she was third on the team in scoring, averaging double digits at 10.4 per game. She recorded a career high of 25 points against Florida Tech on Jan.11. Her career averages include 6.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.5 assist per game.
"I chose Barry because the coaches and athletic staff have been very helpful in my transition these past few months," Murray said. "I cannot wait for this upcoming year and season!"
"Rachel's maturity and experience in the conference will be a valuable advantage for us in year one," Macy said.
KAYLA LINDSEY
Lindsey (5'9, Guard, FR) is one of two freshman joining the Bucs, coming from Norcross HS in Norcross, GA. Lindsey is an accomplished high school player, being named three-time All-County, All-Region and All-State. As a senior she led the Blue Devils to a 7A state championship berth and a 29-3 record. As a junior, the Devils went 26-5 and won a state title. For her career she ranks top-10 in school history for steals (182-4th) and assist (218 - 6th).
"I chose Barry because as soon as a stepped on campus I felt at home," Lindsey said. "I loved the school, and the professors I met were great."
"Kayla is a winner and will bring a defensive presence for us immediately," Macy said.
ANDREONIA DOE
Doe (6'0, Guard/Forward, FR) is the second incoming freshman that will be joining the Bucs from Mill Creek HS in Buford, GA. She led the 13-12 Hawks to a 7A regional tournament. For her career she averaged 6.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game, shooting 40 percent from the floor.
"I chose Barry because I am excited for new beginnings that I will experience at Barry," Doe said.
"AD will immediately bring the ability to create mismatches within our system," Macy said.
AUDREY JENNINGS
Jennings (5'9, Guard, JR) is another transfer from Greensboro, following coach Macy to Barry. Jennings is very accomplished at the collegiate level, in her sophomore season she earned First-Team All-Region honors from D3hoops.com, named USA South Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference while averaging 17.4 points per game while shooting 86 percent from the free-throw line and 31 percent from three. She was named the Pride's rookie of the year in her freshman season.
"I chose Barry because of the challenges and opportunities it gave me," Jennings said. "Attending Barry will allow me to be a part of a diverse community and experience in Miami Shores. I believe Barry will challenge academically and allow me to pursue a professional career."
"Audrey is driven, experienced, and prepared to experience tremendous success right away," Macy said.
HOLLY DAVIES
Davies (5'7, Guard, SR) is a transfer from Newberry College where she played the last two seasons. She played in a total of 56 games, starting in 55. In the 2022-23 season she scored double-digits in 13 games while shooting 80.6 percent from the free-throw line. In her two seasons at Newberry she averaged 7.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2,2 assist per game. She was also named to the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll both seasons.
"I chose Barry because with one year of eligibility left, I wanted to go somewhere that I would be pushed as a player and I believe this is the perfect fit," Davies said.
"Davies will thrive in the system, plus her understanding of the game will elevate us immediately," Macy said.
AIJAH PALMORE
Palmore (6'1, Center/Forward, JR) is the third transfer to follow coach Macy from Greensboro. In her lone season at Greensboro. Palmore played in 28 games, coming off the bench. She averaged 6.8 points per game to go along with 9.9 rebounds per game, which led the team and was good for second in the conference. She rebounded in double figures 15 times, and recorded 23 against Pfeiffer on Feb. 11. Before Greensboro she played two seasons at St. Andrews, where she averaged 9.9 points per game and 7.5 rebounds over her two seasons there.
"I chose Barry because I saw this as an opportunity I could not pass up," Palmore said . "Coach Macy believed in me, saw my max potential and helped me improve on and off the court."
"Aijah is the most physical rebounder I have ever coached," Macy said.
MYA LEWIS
Lewis (5'8, Guard, JR) transfers in from Less McRae, where she played last season in 24 games, averaging 1.6 points and 1.0 rebounds per game. Before her stop at Less McRae, Lewis played a year at Guilford Technical CC, starting 20 games and averaging a team-high 11.4 points per game.
"I chose Barry because of the many opportunities I am provided with to do great things and off the court," Lewis said.
"Mya is a well-rounded player who is a great addition to our team and program," Macy said.
