Baseball Sinks Argonauts To Advance To Winner's Bracket Final

Reagan strikes out 15 in a complete-game

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers sank the seventh-ranked and second-seeded West Florida Argonauts 6-1 to advance to the winner's bracket final at the 2023 South Region Tournament at Jim Spooner Field on Friday.

SUMMARY:

  • T3: The Argonauts got on the board first as Josh Prizina jumped all over a pitch from Mike Reagan (10-1) and sent it over the centerfield wall. | UWF 1, Barry 0
  • B4: Braden Forchic got the Bucs even with a lead-off homer of his own in the fourth. | Barry 1, UWF 1
  • B5: Jake Ogden and Steven Nitch hit back-to-back singles to open the fifth inning and chase UWF starter Major Posey (7-3). With runners at the corners, Evan Wickeri beat out a bunt to score one run and Nitch later scored on a sacrifice fly from Forchic. | Barry 3, UWF 1
  • B6: With Brandon Sanchez on first after a fielder's choice, Ogden ripped a triple to left field to score the runner. | Barry 4, UWF 1
  • B8: Savi Delgado led off with a single ot left center and Sanchez slashed a double down the left field line to put runners at second and third for Ogden. The rookie bounced a single up the middle to score both runs. | Barry 6, UWF 1

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Reagan tossed his first complete game of the year, holding teh Argos to just one run on four hits. He struck out a career-high 15, which tied Jayson Brown (Palm Beach Atlantic, Mar. 6, 2006) for the second-most ever in program history. He also did not issue a walk.
  • Posey took the loss for UWF, giving up three runs on seven hits and a walk in four-plus innings.
  • Ogden led the Bucs at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI.
  • Barry rapped out 14 hits for the second-straight game at the regional. In addition to Ogden, Wickeri, Joe Stella, Kevin Noriega and Nitch each had two hits. 
  • Forchic drove in two with a homer, his 10th of the season, and a sacrifice fly.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry will face the winner of the #2 West Florida vs. #3 Montevallo elimination game on Saturday at 3:30 pm EDT. If the Bucs win, they advance to the Super regional next weekend.
