Baseball Blasts Mocs To Win Series

Final game halted by lightning until tomorrow at 1:00 pm

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Barry blasted the Florida Southern Moccasins 8-2 in the first game of their Sunshine State Conference doubleheader at Henley Field on Saturday afternoon. The second doubleheader game, and the final game of the series, was halted in the first inning to be resumed tomorrow, May 14, at 1 p.m. at Henley Field.

SUMMARY:

  • T1: Barry jumped out on top in the first inning, as the Mocs struggled defensively, committing three errors. Christian Maceda and Evan Wickeri scored on an error by third baseman Rohsean Riley  and Braden Forchic, who had the only hit of the inning for the Bucs, scored on an error by shortstop Jevin Releford.  | Barry 3, FSC 0
  • T2: Wickeri doubled with one out and Maceda walked. After successful steals for both runners, Joe Stella brought both home with a single up the middle. Kevin Noriega followed with an RBI double down the right field line. | Barry 6, FSC 0
  • T5: Brandon sanchez doubled and scored on a single by Jake Ogden. | Barry 7, FSC 0
  • T6: Forchic tripled to lead off the sixth. Stella singled to right to drive him in. | Barry 8, FSC 0
  • B7: With two outs, Connor Berry singled and scored ahead of a home run by Jeff Liquori. | Barry 8, FSC 0

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Frank II Gonzalez (4-2) worked five scoreless innings on just two hits to earn the win. He struck out four.
  • The win for Gonzalez (18-5) was his 18th career win, tying with Jonathan Hernandez (18-18), Calvin Rayburn (18-6) and Jayson Brown (18-14) for ninth place on the program's all-time list. 
  • Aric McAtee (6-4) took the loss for the Mocs. in 4.0 innings, he allowed six runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks.
  • Forchic led the Bucs with three hits, while Wickeri, Stella, Sanchez and Matthew Menendez each had two.
  • Stella drove in three runs, while Wickeri Maceda, and Forchic each scored twice.
  • Barry has now won six of the last seven games in the series in Lakeland. 

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs and Mocs will conclude the series' final game, which was suspended after the top of the first with the Bucs up 1-0, on Sunday, starting at 1:00 pm.
