Baseball Works Overtime To Sweep Moccasins

Barry takes weather-delayed game three in 10 innings

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Barry worked overtime to beat the Florida Southern Moccasins 10-9 in 10 innings in the final game of their Sunshine State Conference series at Henley Field on Sunday afternoon. The game had been delayed by weather from Saturday.

SUMMARY:

  • T1: After being delayed for almost two hours, the Bucs jumped out on top in the first inning. Evan Wickeri reached on aonther error by the Mocs and scored on a single by Joe Stella. | Barry 1, FSC 0
  • B1: The rain was again halted by lightning, with the bottom of the inning picking up on Sunday afternoon. The Mocs struck back for three runs to take the lead. Bryan Safferwich doubled to drive in one run and Connor Berry drove in two with a single to left. | FSC 3, Barry 1
  • T2: Barry exploded for six runs off FSC starter Nathan Madej with a two-out rally. Savi Delgado was hit by Madej and Jake Ogden singled around a pair of outs. But Wickeri came through with an RBI single to score Delgado and he and Ogden worked a double steal to tie the game. After a walk to Christian Maceda, Braden Forchic singled to center to drive in Wickeri. Maceda scored on a wild pitch by Madej.   • B7: The Mocs finally knotted the game in the seventh off a pair of Buccaneer relievers. Drew Cavanaugh scored on a single by Riley after reaching on a fielder's choice. | BArry 9, FSC 9
  • T10: In the top of the 10th, Ogden drew a lead-off walk and went to second on base hit by Wickeri. Maceda came up with an RBI single to give the Bucs a lead. | Barry 10, FSC 9
  • B10: Ogden made the run stand up in the bottom of the inning, getting Jeff Liquori to ground into a game-ending double play. | Barry 10, FSC 9

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Federico Zapata (2-2), the ninth pitcher of the day for the Bucs, earned the win with two shutout innings, holding the Mocs to one hit while striking out two. 
  • Ogden gave up a hit and a walk in a scoreless 10th inning to earn his fourth save in four appearance on the mound as a rookie.
  • Reliever Kerry Wright (2-2), who also took the loss in game one on Friday as a starter, was hung with the loss again today. He gave up a run on two hits and walk in his one inning of work.
  • Maceda, Ogden and Stella each had three hits to lead the Bucs.
  • Stella drove in a team-high three runs, while Wickeri and Ogden each scored three times. 
  • Barry has now won seven of the last eight games in Lakeland, including a pair of three-game sweeps. 

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs closed out the regular season with 32 wins, including 16 in conference. It was the first time winning 30 games since 2013 (31-19) and the first time with a winning record in conference since 2019 (15-13). The Bucs now wait for the selections for the NCAA Tournament, which will be announced at 11:00 pm tonight.
