Baseball Loses Opener To #3 Tampa

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry lost 8-6 to the third-ranked Tampa Spartans in the opening of their Sunshine State Conference baseball series at Feinbloom Field on Friday night.

  • B1: Kevin Noriega knocked in Braden Forchic, who had doubled, with the game's first run. | Barry 1, Tampa 0
  • T2: Tampa tied it on a sacrifice fly by Nico Saladino. | Barry 1, Tampa 1
  • T4: Saladino drove in Danny Gutcher with a single down the left field line. | Tampa 2, Barry 1
  • B5: Noriega knocked in a pair to re-take the lead the Bucs. | Barry 3, Tampa 2
  • T8: Tampa retook the lead on a sacrifice fly by Jose Cadenas and an RBI single by Jordan Lala. | Tampa 4, Barry 3
  • B8: It was Barry's turn in the bottom of the inning as Joe Stella and Noriega hit back-to-back solo homers. Savi Degado doubled to bring in Jake Ogden and make it 6-4. | Barry 6, Tampa 4
  • T9: In the ninth, the Bucs got two outs after a leadoff single, but an error let one one runs score and Saladino followed with a three-run homer to give the game to the Spartans. | Tampa 8, Barry 6

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Trevor Baker (0-3) took the loss for the Bucs, despite not giving up an earned run. 
  • Jack Brodsky (4-0) got the win, despite coughing up the lead in the eighth. He worked two innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits. 
  • Noriega went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI.
  • Saladino led Tampa with three hits, including a double and a homer, with five RBI. He was the only Tampa batter to enter the game hitting less than .300. 

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs close out the home part of the season in an SSC doubleheader tomorrow at starting at 1:00 pm against the Spartans. Barry will honor the 2023 senior class prior to game one.
