Baseball Blows Away Hurricanes

Bucs shut out GSW

AMERICUS, Ga. -- Mike Reagan and Federico Zapata twirled a two-hit shutout as the Barry Buccaneers blew away the Georgia Southwestern State Hurricanes 5-0 at Hurricane Stadium on Saturday.

  • T2: After Kevin Noriega and Jake Ogden singled with one out, Steven Nitch drove in the first run of the game with a base hit to left field. | Barry 1, GSW 0
  • T6: Barry struck for three runs in the sixth off Hurricane starter Nick McCollum (4-2). Braden Forchic tripled to lead off the inning and, one out later, Joe Stella walked. Noriega doubled to right center to score Forchic and Stella came home on a fly out by Ogden. Nitch capped the inning with an RBI single through the left side. | Barry 4, GSW 0
  • T8: After Stella was hit by a pitch from reliever Troy Shepherd and Nitch walked, Christian Maceda capped the scoring with a base hit to center. | Barry 5, GSW 0

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Reagan (6-0) kept his record perfect with eight innings of one-hit, shutout ball. He walked three and struck out six.
  • Zapata gave up a single in the ninth and struck out one to close it out.
  • Forchic, Noriega and Nitch each had two hits to lead the Bucs.
  • Stella and Noriega each scored twice, while Nitch drove in two.
  • McCollum took the loss for the Hurricanes. He allowed four runs on eight hits in seven innings, walking one and striking out five.

The series was re-configured due to weather in the area. The teams will play the doubleheader tomorrow, starting at 9:30 am.
