Baseball Swamps Sharks

Game called after the 5th inning due to torrential rains

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.  -- The Barry University baseball team swamped the Nova Southeastern Sharks 8-3 at Feinbloom Field on Tuesday night in a non-Sunshine State Conference matchup. The game was called after five complete innings due to a torrential rain storm in the area that flooded the field.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP

All-Time Series: Barry leads 59-56-1

SUMMARY:
Buccaneers 8, Sharks 3

  • B2: Barry got on the board first against NSU starter Michael Dillon (1-1). The Bucs loaded the bases on singles by Jake Ogden and Steven Nitch and a 10-pitch walk to Branden Abreu. Brandon Sanchez got Ogden home with a sacrifice fly. | Bucs 1, Sharks 0
  • B3: Evan Wickeri lined a shot off Dillon's leg for an infield hit and promptly stole second. Kevin Noriega ripped a double down the right field line to drive Wickeri home. Nitch followed, one out later, with a triple to deep center field, scoring Noriega and Jarrett May doubled down the left field line to score Nitch. | Bucs 4, Sharks 0
  • T4: Duncan Pastore led off with a walk and Daniel Irisarri laced a single up the middle. Pastore scored when the ball slipped under Abreu's glove in center. Irisarri scored on a dropped fly ball in left and Adam Smith, who walked, scored on a fly out. | Bucs 4, Sharks 3
  • B4: Barry got the runs back against former Buccaneer Daniel Vazquez. Joe Stella walked with one out and went to second on wild pitch by Vazquez. Noriega also walked and Ogden followed with a long single, high off the batter's eye in center to load the bases. Nitch stepped up again and doubled into the left-center field gap, scoring both Noriega and Stella. The Bucs chased Vazquez after he hit May with a pitch, his third hit batsmen of the game. Abreu slashed a single against the drawn-in infield to score Ogden and Sanchez laid down a perfect safety squeeze to get Nitch home. | Bucs 8, Sharks 3
  • B5: After a one-out walk to Stella, Noriega hit into a 5-4-3 double play, just as a torrential rain storm swept the field, forcing the game to be called after five complete innings.
