Bucs knock of cross-town St. Thomas in mid-week matchup

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- Barry baseball clubbed the NAIA #13-ranked St. Thomas Bobcats 7-2 on Tuesday night at Paul Demie Mainieri Field.

  • T2: Jake Ogden reached on an error by Bobcat third baseman Robin Fernandez. Braden Forchic opened the scoring with an RBI single. Forchic later scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Sanchez. | Barry 2, STU 0
  • B3: Former Buccaneer Omar  Baldo hit a two-out solo homer for the Bobcats in the third. | Barry 2, STU 1
  • T6: Barry struck for four funs in the sixth off the STU bullpen. Joe Stella singled and, one out later, Ogden also had a base hit off reliever Yordani Carmona. NOTEWORTHY:

  • Angel Cespedes (5-1) picked up his fifth win, tying for the team lead. The junior worked six innings, allowing two runs on two hits and four walks. He struck out four.
  • Three Barry relievers combined for three innings, allowing just one hit and five strikeouts.
  • Crosby Bringhurst (3-3) took the loss for St. Thomas, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk in two innings.
  • Bobcat reliever Luis Berrios faced six batters, allowed five hits and four runs.
  • Forchic continued his red-hot batting, going 4-for-4 with a homer, three runs and two RBI.
  • Sanchez and Stella each had two hits, while Nitch drove in three.
  • Fernandez had two of the three hits for the Bobcats, while Baldo hit his second homer of the year.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs visit eighth-ranked Rollins for a three-game Sunshine State Conference series this weekend at Alfond Stadium.
