Baseball Hammers Knights' Bullpen In Series Opener

Bucs score 10 runs off the relievers in taking game one

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.  -- The Barry Buccaneers hammered the bullpen for the Lynn Knights in taking game one of their Sunshine State Conference series 15-6 on Friday night at Feinbloom Field.

SUMMARY:
Buccaneers 15, Knight 6

  • T1: The Knights struck first in the opening inning. AJ Orrico reached on a perfect bunt and scored on a single by Leon Paulino. David Judge, who reached on an error, scored as Byron Murray grounded into a double play. | Lynn 2, Barry 0
  • B1: Barry trimmed a run off the lead with a two-out rally. Evan Wickeri walked and Joe Stella hammered ball off the batter's eye in center, driving him in. | Lynn 2, Barry 1
  • T2: Orrico knocked in Shawn Doughtery, who led off with a single, with a base hit to center. | Lynn 3, Barry 1
  • B2: Jake Ogden led off with a double, went to third on a wild pitch and stole home on the front end of a double steal with Savi Delgado. | Lynn 3, Barry 2
  • T6: The Knights staged a two-out rally of their own in the sixth. Yukuzi Okamura singled and stole second. Ryan Ford drove in the run with a base hit to right. Ford scored on a triple by John Rodriguez, who trotted home himself when the relay got away at third base. | Lynn 6, Barry 2
  • B6: Stella singled with one out and scored on a double by Kevin Noriega. After a base hit by Ogden, Noriega scored on an error and Ogden came home on a sacrifice fly by Braden Forchic. | Lynn 6, Barry 5
  • B7: The wheels came off for the Knights when they had to go to the bullpen. Barry tied the game on a ground out by Stella, bring home Maceda who reached on a fielder's choice and stole second and third. After a walk to Noriega, Ogden smashed his team-leading sixth homer of the year, a three-run shot to left center to give Barry the lead. | Barry 9, Lynn 6.
  • B8: Things went from bad to worse for the Knights in the eighth as Barry sent 12 men to the plate and scored six more runs. Forchic walked and went to third on a failed pick off attempt. Brandon Sanchez knocked in the run with a single to center. With runners at second and third after a passed ball by Okamura, Matthew Menendez scored on a ground out. Noriega knocked in a run with a single through the right side and Ogden drove in two more with a base hit down the left field line. Noriega scored the final run when Forchic was hit by a pitch. | Barry 15, Lynn 6

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Mike Reagan (5-0) improved to 5-0 with a seven-inning outing. He gave up six runs (four earned) on 10 hits and struck out one, but did not walk a batter. 
  • Federico Zapata tossed the last two innings for his four save.
  • Reliever Nathan Shane (0-2) was hung with the loss after surrendering six runs (two earned) on one hit, three walks and a hit batter in 1.0 innings of work.
  • Ogden continued to swing a hot bat for the Bucs, going 4-for-5 with a double, a homer, three runs, five RBI. He also stole a base.
  • Stella and Noriega went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs each. Forchic also drove in a pair, despite not registering an official at-bat. 
  • Orrico had three hits for the Knights, while Okamura and Ford each had two, as Lynn out-hit the Bucs 12-9.
  • But the Bucs drew 11 free passes from the Knights, while not issuing any themselves. 

ON THE HORIZON:
The Buccaneers continue the series with the Knights with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 11:00 am.
