MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University softball team swept Mars Hill University in a non-league doubleheader at Buccaneer Field, 8-0 in five innings followed by 4-1. Maci Barnhart (W, 2-1) pitched the complete-game, five-inning shutout in the opener with nine strikeouts. Cassandra Lee (W, 2-0) earned the win in the nightcap going 6.2 while striking out a dozen Lions; Haelee Angelico (S, 1) got the final out on a foul line drive to Taylor Thompson in left field. The Buccaneers improve to 4-2 while the Lions open 2023 with two losses and extend their losing streak to 13 games after finishing 2022 with 11 straight defeats.

- B4: Both sides were hitless until Becka Mellor singled with one out in the 3rd. Mac Stone-Folmar led off the 4th with a bunt single. With one out, Rylee Lord reached on a bunt and Stone-Folmar went to third before Lord stole second. Brooke Moeller had the third bunt of the inning with a sacrifice handled by the third baseman to the second baseman covering first. - B5: Sofia Chamorro led off the inning with a single up the middle. She was forced at second when Mellor reached on a fielder's choice on a great stop by second baseman Meghan Murphy. Mellor advanced to third on Bunn's groundout to the left side. Taylor Thompson singled to right center to score Mellor.
